Biography

Jack Pierson (Plymouth, Massachusetts, 1960) is one of the most relevant American artists of his generation.

He studied at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and emerged within the so-called “Boston School,” in dialogue with artists such as Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg, contributing to the renewal of photography in the 1980s.

From the beginning, he developed a practice spanning photography, drawing, and sculpture, characterized by an intimate and suspended visual language.

From the 1990s onward, he introduced his well-known Word Sculptures, created using letters recovered from discarded signage, through which he transforms fragments of American visual culture into concise and emotionally charged statements.

Through an interdisciplinary practice, Pierson constructs a recognizable language in which photography, object, and text intersect, developing a reflection on memory, desire, and identity.
