Description of the Work: "Alphabeth Bété, 2008" by Frédéric Bruly Bouabré

Frédéric Bruly Bouabré: The Bété Alphabet, Code and Cultural Memory

"Alphabeth Bété" is a significant installation by Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, created in 2008. The work is composed of 15 elements, each measuring 20 cm x 12.5 cm each.

The work is a tribute to his primary research: the creation of the Bété Alphabet, a system of pictograms designed to preserve the language and culture of his people (Bété, Ivory Coast). Bouabré uses the simple yet incisive technique of ballpoint pen, pastels, and colored pencils on cardboard. Each card serves as a page in a universal encyclopedia, where the artist catalogs the world's knowledge through his pictographic code.
