Symbolic narration and universal brotherhood
“La rencontre des amoreaux” (2009) by Frédéric Bruly Bouabré belongs to the later phase of his practice, in which the artist develops a visual system based on the transmission of knowledge and the representation of Bété culture. The work reflects a vision in which image and language merge into a universal narrative.
Composed of forty-nine elements on cardboard, each measuring 20 x 12.5 cm, the installation forms a structured whole in which each unit contributes to the construction of a continuous narrative. Signs, figures, and symbols are articulated in a sequence that recalls the form of a visual archive.
Executed with ballpoint pen, pastel, and colored pencils, the work presents a chromatically vibrant and formally essential surface, where the artist’s language unfolds through a synthesis of writing and image. The work is part of a reflection on brotherhood among peoples and the possibility of a shared symbolic system.
