Description of the Work: "Naturalmente, Anni '70" by Mario Schifano

Schifano and the Return to Nature: A Pop-Expressionist Vision

"Naturalmente" is a striking work by Mario Schifano, created in the 1970s in enamel on emulsion canvas, measuring 115 x 80 cm. This canvas, depicting a vase of flowers with intense chromatic intensity, testifies to the artist's return to more traditional subjects, filtered through his unmistakable Pop-Expressionist lens.

In contrast to his iconic serial images (such as televisions and signs), here Schifano tackles the theme of still life, but he does so with his distinctive technique: the use of enamel gives the painting a glossy, vibrant surface, while the rapid, intense application of color charges the composition with emotional energy. The free brushstrokes and subtle contours transform the vase and flowers into almost dreamlike apparitions.

The work is a significant example of how Schifano, while exploring a classical theme, maintains his criticism of visual language, merging the immediacy of Pop Art with the gestures of Informalism.

"Naturalmente" comes from a private collection and was exhibited at the 2005 "Mario Schifano Exhibition" at the Galleria Machario in Rome. The piece was included in the six-volume monograph edited by Giorgio Guzzi.

The painting is archived in the General Archive of Mario Schifano's Works, curated by Monica de Bei, at the Mario Schifano Foundation in Rome.
