Description of the Work: "La Belle Europe" by Frédéric Bruly Bouabré
The Drapeau Series: A Universal Iconography
"La Belle Europe" is a massive installation by Frédéric Bruly Bouabré, consisting of fifty elements created with mixed media on cardboard. The work is part of the celebrated "Drapeau Series," in which the Ivorian master reimagines the visual identity of nations through his symbolic and universal language.
Each piece of this composition (12.5 x 20 cm) contributes to a 105 x 140 cm mosaic, in which Bouabré's handwriting and vibrant use of color transform the concepts of border and belonging into a poetic and philosophical narrative. As is typical of his work, each piece is signed and dated on the back, making the entire installation a priceless historical and artistic document.
Presented in prominent museum contexts, such as the recent exhibition at the Riso Museum in Palermo, "La Belle Europe" represents one of the greatest expressions of Bouabré's vision: an artist who was able to codify Bété culture to speak to the entire world.
