Material and construction in the “Landscape” series
“Untitled” (1970) by Roberto Crippa belongs to the “Landscape” series, developed during the mature phase of his research, in which the artist explores the material dimension of painting. In this period, the surface becomes a space of construction through the integration of heterogeneous elements.
Executed with collage and cork on panel, the work presents a structured composition in which material plays a central role. The cork, embedded within the surface, introduces a tactile dimension that enhances the physical perception of the work.
The composition unfolds through a balance between formal elements and expressive tension, representing a significant moment in Crippa’s research, where pictorial language expands toward an object-based and three-dimensional dimension.
