Description of the Work: "Untitled, 2004" by Salvatore Emblema
Salvatore Emblema: Jute, Earth, and the Language of Weaving
"Untitled" is a large painting by Salvatore Emblema, created in 2004, measuring 140 x 170 cm. This work fully represents the research that has distinguished Emblema's work: the fusion of painting, sculpture, and the radical manipulation of the medium.
The work was created using her signature technique: unwoven jute canvases are painted and given a highly textured feel through the use of organic elements such as lapilli and colored earths, in this case black and gold. Emblema uses the dripping technique to lend dynamism to the painting, while the organic, textured materials accentuate the surface's texture. Through unweaving, the artist "opens" the canvas, transforming the support into a transparent and vibrant element that captures and reflects light.
This approach positions Emblema as a key figure in Arte Povera, focused on reclaiming roots and valorizing natural materials. The painting, in perfect condition, is signed and dated on the back.
The prestige of "Untitled, 2004" is confirmed by its exhibition at the 2009 Venice Biennale and is published in the official catalogue of the event on page 216. The work comes from a private collection and is accompanied by the certificate of archiving issued by the Emblema Museum.
